Personal ethic is a category of philosophy that determines what an individual believes about ethics. These thoughts can sometimes come from a work environment,  a business or even from a legal perspective. Personal ethics can affect all areas of life which includes family, friends, finances and relationships.

There has been some debate about where personal ethics comes from, but some philosophers think that a divine power instilled personal morality in mankind, which gave them the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. Others might say that personal ethics is not natural, but it is a learned behavior that comes from families, friends, experiences and teachers.

Personal ethics can range from pleasing your community to pleasing others through a religious belief. Most people who have a specific denomination, are devoted to their faith and try not to stray away from what they deem to be right or wrong. Another reason for personal ethics is that it could be self serving. A person will learn what they need to know in order to obtain a specific reward because they see the benefit in the learning. They see that adhering to a specific rule or set of guidelines gets them the gratification that they are looking for, and therefore ultimately getting what they desire, whether it's intimacy, love or the respect of their peers.

Starting from early childhood to adulthood, making personal ethical decision will always cause dilemmas in one's life. During this age and time, now would be the right tie to start caring about ethics on a daily basis. Ethical misconduct is always in the news, but it is somewhat due to the people we have grown to trust and believe in. Some of the friends are personal ones, and some are business friends. When any friend starts doing unethical practices, seemingly or deliberately, and we become unsure of what we should do next, whether to trust them or report them. That is the time to reevaluate yourself and the people that surround you, the ones you call friends. Society seems to set the rules and break the rules. They hold themselves to a different set of rules. Unethical behavior such as cheating, corporate misconduct, fraud, lying and political misconduct is never condoned by anyone who is considered a friend.

Trying to determine if your personal friendship is ethical or unethical, you should always be able to walk away from the situation with your head held high because you know you have done the right thing. You should not let personal ethics be the cause of bad decisions that you may regret the rest of your life. Always make decisions you can live with.
